Hello & Welcome,

I am Sonja, a freelance illustrator and designer, focusing on children’s books and surface designs such as wall art, greeting cards, stationary and more.

Inspired by nature, I love to create delicate designs and to bring charming characters to life. Books and pictures have always been „my two things“. After graduating with an English and graphic design degree and working several years in the publishing industry, I reunited with my earliest passion: drawing and illustrating. Over time, I have developed an illustration process where I start off with traditional media such as gouache, watercolor and colored pencils. Then I use digital tools for editing and finishing off.

Stylewise, I am drawn to fine details, warm, earthly hues and harmonious color combinations. I also have a faible for handlettering and am happy to incorporate it in my designs whenever it fits.

I am based in my hometown Graz, Austria, after having lived in the US for a year and almost a decade in Vienna. When I am not at my drawing desk, you can find me outside in the fresh air, traveling through Scandinavian landscapes and pouring over a weighty novel; or – more lately – reading bedtime stories to my 3-year-old.
